About
A new notebook on an old domain name
Notes on dice probability in tabletop role-playing games, how to read dice notation, and how to design a character with the numbers in mind.
Who runs this site
This site has been operated by a new owner since November 2026. The responsible unit is recorded as [waiting for the owner to fill this in]. No individual byline appears on any note until a named person is assigned to it and their details have been checked; until then everything is signed by the editorial desk.
What the domain was used for before
This domain once belonged to a browser role-playing game group (roughly 2007 to 2013), and a blog plus a number of odd folders were later added to it. That group may still operate under a different domain name and has no connection to this site. None of the old material is restored: this site was started by the domain's new owner in November 2026, everything on it is newly written, and it represents neither the earlier authors nor the earlier team.
Old addresses from that period are deliberately not restored. Folders that once held unrelated material, account pages, and the old game's internal profile and blog paths all answer 410 Gone, which tells a search engine the page is finished rather than moved.
What this site covers
- Probability in tabletop role-playing games: sums, ranges, spread, and what "roll under" means.
- Dice notation, read from first principles rather than memorised.
- Character building as a set of choices that the numbers actually support.
- Table craft: pacing a scene, planning an encounter by arithmetic instead of by feeling.
What this site is not
- It is not the browser game that once lived here, and it publishes nothing from it — no old text, no old artwork, no old accounts.
- It does not sell dice, rulebooks, or anything else, and it carries no advertising.
- It does not publish material for real-money play of any kind; the dice discussed here belong inside a story with characters and a referee.
